Wednesday 12th
After another relaxed waking we set off for Barcelona for a
second day. It had not seemed very warm when I went onto my balcony so I had
not put on my lightest clothes. Mistake! It was humid and I sweltered and
sweated.
Once again we wandered the streets looking for a bar. We
walked further than we needed to because of a slight misunderstanding. David
was looking for the square we’d visited the day before. I thought he meant the
square with the cathedral and was leading him in that direction, following
signs. Actually he meant a different square, one much closer to the ship. I had
caused us to walk further than we needed to. It was a good sign of our
friendship and of how easy-going both of us are that not a single cross word
was said. There were no accusations or defensiveness – just acceptance while we
continued to walk.
We chose a bar with wifi. What we were not told until we had
been served was that the boss only paid for a cheap package of wifi, which meant
we could not get on.
(Notice that we didn't just drink wine; there's sparking water on the table as well.)
We therefore had to call into another bar on our way home
in order to access the wifi. David wanted to make phone calls so had to find
the quietest place in the room while I stayed at our table checking emails and
Facebook. I then experimented with a phone call to my niece Julie via Messenger
– rather strange using an iPad as I didn’t quite know where to hold it and her
replies were loud enough for nearby people to hear, as they came through the
iPad speakers. I learnt something new.
We bought various stuff in the duty free shop on the way
back to the ship. I bought some very expensive but delicious chocolate with
almonds.
The dancing that night was sequence. I had to dash back to
the Lido partway through as I had forgotten to take extra salt after all our
time walking in the hot sun. I felt too light-headed to dance by the second dance.
After the salt, though, I was able to dance every second dance – though I
tended to lose energy partway through each dance.
In the early dance session David and I were mucking around a
bit, with David trying to flick my new fan open and closed and then fan
himself. A woman came up to us and said ‘I love watching you on the ballroom
floor – but you’re even more entertaining when you sit down.’
