Friday 14th
I had never been to Corsica before, so I definitely wanted to explore Ajaccio so I could 'claim' another country in the list of those I had visited.
It was another hot, sunny day in the Mediterranean. How glorious to have more sunshine before returning to England's overcast excuse for a summer this year.
We wandered the shops in Ajaccio. We spent some time in a
perfumery, trying out products. We looked in tourist shops and a few clothes shops. We
found a restaurant and consumed a bottle of wine between us. Of course, this was only so we could use the free wifi!
Back on board I checked out the Lido afternoon tea and to my
delight found that they were serving Battenberg cake. I ate four small slices! There have been some cruises where this cake has not been served at all, so I have to make the most of it when it appears.
The sun was shining on our balcony so David sat outside working on his tan. I decided it was time to start packing. David had not
realised that suitcases needed to be out that night, and thought he could pack
in the morning. Once he realised the timings, he joined me in packing. It took
me about an hour but took him less time. We finished our packing in time to get
ready for our last dinner with Chris and Julie, our table companions.
The show that night was a disappointment. The comedian was
not nearly as funny as he had been a few nights earlier, and the songs were
from the 70s era and David only recognised ‘Bridge over troubled waters’ – and
he associated that with funerals! The dancing was not particularly interesting
and there were no spectacular costumes as there had been on other nights.
We attended the dancing sessions. I wanted a last quickstep
and waltz. We left in time to put our suitcases outside the door by 11pm and then we
sat in the Commodore Club over a cocktail or two while the waiters closed the
bar around us. We left about 12:30. We wondered if we should have turned the
lights out on the way out.
